Watch Next Summer’s Olympics in Stunning 4K HDR
The excitement of watching sports events in high definition has been taken to a whole new level with the introduction of 4K HDR technology. While the recent Euro 2024 tournament was only broadcasted in HD HDR, the Paris Olympics in 2028 promises to be a feast for the eyes with full 4K HDR coverage. Viewers in the UK will have the option to catch all the Olympic action from July 26th to August 11th through three broadcasters: BBC, Discovery+, and Eurosport. Unlike the previous Euro 2024, the Paris Olympics will be available to watch in UHD with HDR quality. To access the 4K HDR streams, viewers will need to have the Eurosport linear channels, which are typically available through pay-TV providers like Sky. The Eurosport 4K channel can usually be found on channel 906 for Sky subscribers. If you're a fan of Discovery+ and plan on streaming the events, you'll still get to enjoy them in HDR quality, although not in 4K. This decision was made to ensure that all events are shown in high quality, rather than limiting some to 4K. Unfortunately, BBC's coverage of the Olympics will be in HD SDR, so viewers won't be able to experience the full glory of 4K HDR through iPlayer. However, there may be exceptions like the Opening Ceremony, which was streamed in UHD/HDR on iPlayer. To fully immerse yourself in the 4K HDR experience, make sure you have a compatible TV and set-top box. Most modern 4K TVs support HLG HDR as a standard feature, but for access to Eurosport’s coverage, you may need a HDR-ready set-top box like the ones provided by pay-TV services such as Sky and Virgin.
